About Us and Our Vision

About Us

We Care Nepal Inc. is a non-profit, non-religious organization committed to supporting communities across Nepal during natural disasters as well as providing other humanitarian supports. Funds are generated through charity events and fundraising initiatives including donations and sponsorships. Guided by transparency and accountability, we work closely with local agencies, community groups, and volunteers in Nepal to ensure support reaches those who need it most. Our supports include relief distribution, rebuilding, medical assistance and supporting disadvantaged students.

100% of proceedings are directed toward delivering aid and supporting communities in need.

Our Vision

We believe in proactively raising funds when resources and opportunities allow, enabling us to respond quickly when supports are needed. While we remain committed to supporting people in Nepal, we are also dedicated to expanding our efforts to assist Australian communities, including Indigenous communities in Western Australia.

Our story

It started on 25 April 2015

A 7.6 magnitude earthquake hit Nepal and the damage was hard to look at from this far away. Our co-founders, Ujjwal and Anita, paid their own way to Nepal and started handing out aid. They asked for help on social media and kept going.

Back in Perth, Manoj, Namrata, Babita, Kamal, Bibhushit and Basanta started organising charity events to fund what Ujjwal and Anita were doing on the ground. That split, fundraisers here and volunteers there, is still how We Care Nepal works.

Then the volunteers arrived

More members and volunteers joined, and the events got bigger. With backing from individuals and local businesses, We Care Nepal has delivered more than $100,000 of aid through relief and rebuilding projects.

Eight years of it

A disaster does not end when the rubble is cleared. People carry it for years. We have spent eight years on rebuilding work, school shelters, health posts and the slow business of helping people get their lives back.

What we do

Four kinds of work, one purpose

Everything we run in Perth pays for something specific on the ground. Here is how the four parts fit together.

Charity

We collect donations from individuals and businesses who want their money to arrive intact. Every dollar of profit from our events and every donation goes into relief funding. Nobody here takes a wage.

Community events

Charity dinners, auctions, raffles and street stalls across Perth and Fremantle. Some nights bring in $6,000, some bring in more than $20,000. All of it is counted and reported back.

Disaster relief

Food, water, tarpaulins, blankets, mosquito nets, medical camps and oxygen concentrators. We buy what the affected district actually asks for, not what is easy to ship.

Cultural events

Candlelight vigils, Nepali dance and music nights, comedy shows and Nepalese food. These keep the community here connected, and they are usually how a fundraising night begins.

Purpose and mission

Compassion does not stop at a border

Our purpose

Our job is to reduce suffering after a natural disaster. That means moving quickly on the things people need first: food, clean water, shelter and medical help.

We are a not-for-profit, non-religious organisation. We do not ask who someone prays to or where they come from before we help them.

  • Act fast on urgent needs, then stay for the rebuild
  • Keep the cost of running the organisation at nothing
  • Report every dollar raised and every dollar spent

Our mission

We exist to put a hand out to people in the middle of a crisis. Honesty, transparency and follow-through are the whole method.

Nepal is our main focus, because that is where most of us are from and where our contacts are. It is not the only place we work. When Australian and Indigenous communities in Western Australia need support, we are ready to help here too.

  • Relief and rebuilding across Nepal
  • Support for communities in Western Australia when needed
  • Partnerships only with local groups we can hold to account
Money and accountability

Where the money comes from, and where it goes

A framed item held up for bidding during the live auction at a charity dinner

We raise money by running charity events and by taking donations from people and organisations who agree with what we do. Small donations matter. A $20 note and a $2,000 sponsorship both end up in the same account and both get spent the same way.

We fundraise when we have the people and the opportunity, not when a disaster is already on the news. Having money ready is what lets us respond in days rather than months.

Charities ask people to trust them with money, so we keep strict records. 100% of the profit from our events and 100% of donations go into aid for the people who need it.

How we work

We only partner with groups we can check on

We work with local non-government organisations in Nepal, under conditions we set before any money moves. Local partners know which families are worst off. Our job is to make sure the aid reaches them and that we can prove it did.

Step one

Find the real need

We research with people on the ground before we commit. For the COVID response we worked with APF Nepal Western Nepal to find the health posts in the worst shape.

Step two

Set the conditions

Partnerships come with terms. Who gets the aid, how the list of families is made, and what proof comes back to us.

Step three

Hand it over in person

Our volunteers or our partners distribute directly to families. Photos, receipts and family counts come back with them.

Step four

Report it

Every project gets written up with the amount raised, the amount spent and what it bought. You can read them on the projects page.

Everyone here volunteers. They have jobs, families and the same week you do.
